Dear Jairo (JR)
We are so delighted that we chose to stay at Bahia del Sol Hotel when we came to vacation in Costa Rica recently. We were there for 12 marvelous days, January 26th - February 7th.
I spoke with you on the phone before coming to Costa Rica and you were so friendly and helpful and encouraging. I thought then we had made the right choice. You said it was like a family at the hotel. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly ... and we knew within a short time that we had DEFINITELY made the right choice.
Our suite was very nice, the tropical gardens are awesome, the grounds are beautifully manicured, the beach is clean and the dining area is great. The breakfasts are so delicious (I don't think I bought enough of the Salsa Lizone at the grocery store to bring home with us) ... and the other meals, superb also.
Best of all - the staff was extraordinary!! Everyone was very friendly and informative and provided excellent service. Please extend our best wishes and gratitude to everyone - in particular, Maik and Marcos and Hector and Vanessa at the front desk; those who cleaned our room; the dining room staff who welcomed us so graciously every morning; Francisco, who arranged a lovely table by the water for our last dinner at the hotel. I bought a Costa Rica coffee cup at the hotel gift shop and when I sip from it, I will remember these people and the many good times during these 12 days... and the monkeys.
It was very hot while we were there. Wish we could have brought some of the heat home to upstate New York where it has been very cold since we returned.
We thank you again for a memorable vacation. We hope to return to Potrero and Bahia del Sol Hotel sometime in the future and will highly recommend this lovely resort to our friends.
Fondly,
Barbara and John Englert

If you're looking for a place to just relax, get away from it all this
is your place. Starting from the check-in wonderful place and wonderful
staff. They were very friendly as well as profesional. Once we got to
our room it was just breath taking very nice rooms. We had a chance to
order room service and they were quick and the food was very good. I
can only say good things about this hotel. The beach is pretty, places
to sit and relax.

My 2 daughters and I recently toured parts of Costa Rica and spent 3
nights at Bahia del Sol in Playa Potrero. We were absolutely charmed by
this intimate beach front resort, The room was very nice with good
quality linens, very clean and private,. What I really liked was when I
took my morning walk I was only the one on the beach. What a treat to
have an entire beach to myself except for a few iguana! What impressed
me most was the staff who could not do enough for us. By the time we
checked out we felt like we had spent a few days with family.

My wife and I traveled to Costa Rica for our 25th wedding anniversary
at the end of November. we booked a package through Orbitz and stayed
at the Bahia del Sol. We enjoyed our stay completely. The grounds,
rooms, service, people, weather, and scenery were fantastic!!! If I
could change anything about the trip it would be that I would have
rented a car at the airport when we got there. The travel books I read
said that the signage in Costa Rica wasn't good so I was afraid that I
wouldn't find the hotel from the airport in at night. It would have
been a breeze. There was a huge sign right at the airport exit that
said Playa Flamingo and clear signs from there on.
The hotel
was the highlight of the trip. The garden was really awesome and the
staff was friendly and very helpful. Just one of the highlights of our
trip was sipping on a cold Imperial and listening to some staff members
(they were off the clock of course) singing karaoke at the Castle bar
just 200 meters from the hotel. I would also like to mention how
friendly and helpful the Ticos were in the Potrero area as well.
We just had 25 below wind chills in MN and I'm longing for the fabulous sun sets on Potrero Bay right now!!

Excellent service and staff from event planning to the front desk, the
restaurant and even the grounds staff. All very friendly and
professional and great English speakers, if that is something that
concerns you. The only caution is to remember to embrace the Costa
Rican pace when ordering food - it won't be rushed, but it may take
some time getting there.
The rooms were nice and clean - we
stayed in the King Sun suite and I loved the outdoor shower!! And the
A/C worked very well (from someone who melts above 80 degrees this was
key).
The location is amazing - on a beach with no other major
resorts and no quads or other motorized vehicles allowed. We often had
the beach to ourselves. Unlike many other places we looked at in the
area, the hotel was truly beachfront and the ocean was safe for
swimming right outside the resort.
Inside the resort, there was
the perfect mix of public and private areas. Easy to be with a big
group or find a quiet corner. The parents who were along liked the
space because it was easy to keep any eye on their kids. When we
originally booked the hotel, I think we thought of the walk-in swimming
pool and swim-up bar as nice touches, but once we were there we really
enjoyed how much they added to the experience of hanging out with
friends poolside.
The restaurant was terrific - great all three
meals of the day - I miss the chalupas for lunch terribly and breakfast
was nothing to sniff at. To mix things up there are also a number of
nice restaurants and bars, as well as a grocery well-stocked with the
necessities, all within a five minute walk.
Overall, everyone enjoyed the experience so much that they are hoping we'll renew or vows there on a regular basis.

I found Bahia del Sol Beachfront Hotel through a TripAdvisor reviewer's
experience when she had her wedding there. I would like to return the
favor and help another couple fulfill their dreams and keep a budget,
as well!
I had never been to Costa Rica before our wedding,
although my husband had visited once before. Also, I had never been to
the Bahia del Sol Hotel...I had picked it sight unseen. And after
traveling around in Costa Rica on our honeymoon, my favorite place is
still the Bahia del Sol Hotel and the village of Potrero. We had
five-star wedding for only a 3-star price!
The hotel was
perfect! It was quiet and quaint. It is not as big as the photos look
on their website, but it is like a boutique hotel. The rooms are nicely
decorated and clean, and the rates are reasonable. The staff were
friendly and accomodating. The pool and grounds were pristine and I
especially liked swimming up to the pool bar for snacks and
refreshments.
The village of Potrero is a "two pony"
town...meaning it is very small and consists of some homes, one small
grocery and a few restaurants, but we loved it. You can really relax
there and walk casually around on the beach and dirt roads. Potrero
isn't overly commercialized and still seemed authentic.
The
Bahia del Sol hotel is about an hour north from Tamarindo, the closest
large city with a very small domestic airport for guests. It is not
that the city is far away by distance, but the roads are a combination
of dirt and paved roads which weave in and out and you can only go 25
miles or so an hour. This is common in all of Costa Rica and one has to
get used to driving there. Plan twice as much time getting to all
destinations.
(A side note about restaurants, airports and
some reception sites in Costa Rica: most are open air and outside under
a roof, meaning they have no air conditioning. It is actually fine
because the weather is so nice, but you have to get used to having all
of your meals open air, sweating like crazy at your reception and
waiting for your plane open air, rain or shine, at all international
& domestic airports. Plan for humidity, sweating and some bugs.)
Like
the reveiwer who had helped me, I contacted her wedding planner,
Sylvia. I found her service invaluable! I could not have planned this
international wedding without her help (and I am a planner by nature)
and her fee was reasonable. We saved a lot of money, she negotiated
with all of the local vendors and she created our dream wedding. On our
special day, I didn't have to worry about a thing! Is there anything
that I regret about our wedding experience? The only thing that I would
have changed would be our pick for the musicians...there definitely was
a disconnect when they played the chicken dance.
Our wedding
was on Potrero beach in front of the hotel, but we didn't have a
multitude of people in our photos because of this perfectly quaint
location. Our guests were impressed with the hotel, location and the
wedding ceremony and reception. We stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights
and enjoyed every minute of it. The food is fabulous and top rate, and
the wedding menu could compete with any gourmet restaurant in the U.S.
If
you are looking for the Four Seasons, this is not. If you want a unique
hotel with charm and character, you are looking in the right place.
Have a great time in Costa Rica...I am looking forward to returning
some day. Have a glass of guanabana juice for me!
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about planning a wedding in Costa Rica or need referrals.

Volveremos

My wife and I were married on the beach in front of the hotel on June
22. Our goal was to find a small hotel, somewhat private, on a beach
that was not packed with people, and keep things affordable for our 20
guests. Our Costa Rican wedding coordinator, Sylvia , helped us pick
the right place (she travels all over CR) and we felt she did an
excellent job for what she was hired for. We felt the hotel and beach
were very much what we were looking for as for much of the time we had
the place nearly to ourselves. Please remember this is Costa Rica and
the hotels do not compare well to the United States, AC can be noisy, a
few bugs, etc. We found the hotel to be clean and the staff cordial.
Now, what to watch out for: We got hosed big time on the pay by the
drink option for our reception after being told by our wedding
coordinator this seemed to be the better deal. Our party consumed 4
times the cost of drinks in two hours than we did in three hours the
night prior at a local restaurant. It was obvious to us that we had
been severely taken advantage of. Sylvia was able to "negotiate" a fee
for "open bar" for the rest of the evening, but we should have done
that to start. I expect getting drinks would have been much more
difficult. Also, the hotel has a habit of calling local taxi drivers
who are not licensed. We found this out when our taxi driver was pulled
over, had his license plates confiscated, and was told to take us
straight back. All laughs in retrospect there, but I had visions of
being thrown in the clink two hours before my wedding. Lastly, and this
being the worst problem of all. On the last day after my aunt had
emptied her room safe and had her bags packed in her room, hotel staff
entered her locked room while she was at breakfast and went several
layers deep into her bag to steal approximately $1000. It was as if
someone had been in the safe and knew exactly what they were looking
for. Unfortunately, this was not discovered until she was halfway to
the Liberia airport. Even with our wedding coordinator threatening to
stop bringing clients to Bahia del Sol, the hotel management was
essentially non-responsive and made no effort to rectify the situation.
They did offer to let us fly back to San Jose to make a formal
complaint to their insurance company, yea right! Seems likely that
upper level employees were involved. It's too bad, because we liked the
place, but won't go back!
